A sudden flood caused by a crack in a pipe, can compromise flooring, furniture and house walls. It happened once to all of us! It is therefore very important to take the measures necessary to clean flooded room as quickly as possible. Here’s what to do.
Water gathers next to furniture
If you flood a room with flooring, carpets and furniture, then you must hurry to remove water.
Remove all small pieces of furniture. Use large towels, sponges, cloths, mop, broom, dustpan and a bucket to remove the water faster.
Gather first in areas near the wall so that water does not infiltrate and reach the electricity. Then gather the water that remained near furniture.
Remove from the mains electrical goods
You flooded the kitchen? Here are electrical devices and appliances that are connected to electricity, and can cause a short circuit. Before entering the kitchen’s good to wear rubber boots. Then, remove all devices from mains: refrigerator, dishwasher, stove or cooker if it is electric.
Collect water using towels, mops, sponges and rags. Squeeze them into a bucket and empty it into the toilet bowl.
Dry the floor using air conditioning
Once you have collected water from the ground, the floor must be dry. Use absorbent pads to collect the remaining water. Turn on the air conditioner or fan for better air circulation in the room. If it’s hot outside, it does not rain, nor is moisture, and open the windows.
Ventilate the room
Once you have collected water and dried the floor, open for a while the windows. The wet smell will disappear. A good ventilation greatly reduces the risk of mildew or even mold. To better dehumidification use a dehumidifier. Dry carpet which was well watered
If you flooded the living room or bedroom, remove small pieces of furniture and carpet.
Put the latter in the balcony to the air in the vertical position for the water to drain better.
If you sit horizontally, water will penetrate into the fibers of the carpet, and he will catch a very nasty smell. After a well-drained, place it back into the room and wipe it with a dry cloth to absorb as much as possible of the remaining water in the fabric.
Then dry it in depth using a vacuum cleaner. You can also use a hair dryer. If is not dried properly, the carpet will mold.
